Looking at the Water Cycle and Catchment Areas

Posted on by Jeanine Huynh

The Students in Room 3 and the rest of Nga Manu are learning about taking action with water. In this Inquiry we are learning about the Wellington region and the catchment areas we have in the region. This model of a catchment area has allowed students to understand what a catchment area is where the water falls in the valleys and mountains to create lakes, rivers and streams, how some water makes it to the ocean, some evaporates in the sun and heat, and how some goes underground to create underground lakes and rivers. This was a good opportunity to show students how important it is for us to be very careful and responsible with the water we have, especially in summer when it doesn’t rain. Take a look.
