Island Bay Marine Education Centre Trip

29th July 2022

It was an exciting first week back for our Ngā Manu tamariki as it was the much-anticipated trip to the Island Bay Marine Education Centre. The children not only had the chance to go exploring in the Rock Pools and find cushion starfish, crabs, glass shrimps, small black fish, snails, limpets, and anemones but put them in a bucket to have a good look at them. Every creature was returned to it’s place!

Inside the centre, they could plunge their hands into water and touch/pick up the various types of sea creatures such as cushion starfish, sea stars, sea anemones, crabs, and sea cucumbers. They could also look at the wonderful sea life swimming around in the aquariums!

For the Room 14 & 15 tamariki, they had the bonus of not seeing just one seal who was swimming in the rock pool by the centre but a very cute baby seal who was going walkabout on the path leading to the centre!

A HUGE Thank you to all the Tawhai Whanau who gave up their time to come along with the students. We are sure that they had just as much fun as the tamariki did!

A BIG thank you to Dave Whiteman for organising this wonderful trip for our tamariki!

Here are a ‘few photos’ of mainly the Wednesday outing, plus some taken by Yasmin (thank you!) on Tuesday when Room’s 3 & 4 were down at the Centre. Hopefully more photos to come which can be added to this album.

If anyone would like to share photos, please message or email: rosa@tawhai.school.nz

Thank you!
