It was awesome to take our Year 1 children on a trip to Te papa to extend our knowledge about abstract art. It was a very exciting lead up to our trip and the children were absolutely fantastic on the day, it is great to have such a compassionate and responsible group of children! We started off our day hopping onto the bus and heading into the very sunny Wellington city ready to tackle the museum. For many of our children, this was their very first time going here so it was a very happy bus ride.
In class this term, we have been exploring our art skills and creating abstract art designs, so when the opportunity came up for us to go see some fantastic art in the museum we took it! We were greeted by a lovely man called Martin, who took us on a tour around Te papa’s abstract art area, showing us all the unique and exciting pieces. The kids loved the different colours we saw, and how we can use different shapes and lines to form art.
We also used our time at the Museum to eat our kai together, go for a bush walk, a play in the dinosaur sand digging area and we also went into a worm cave!
A huge thank you to all of our parents who joined us on the trip- without you this trip would not have been possible and the kids absolutely loved every moment and that is what it is all about.
We look forward to planning the next one
