Room 7 has had a fabulous start to the school year. We have been busy over these early weeks learning about and embracing the concepts of: Relating to and valuing others, taking responsibility for managing ourselves, and being excited about new learning. These tie into exploring Respect, Responsibility and our newly added school values of Resilience and Integrity.
It was a sweet start to the term. We shared stories about kindness and co – operation and worked with a “lucky dip” partner paying them compliments and saying how much enjoyed being a team together. The story of “Cake Girl” showed how friendship can develop when you treat people nicely.
We wrote our Class Treaty and signed it with a feather – just like the Treaty of Waitangi was signed nearly 200 years ago. As we shared more about our families we learnt about the diversity of Aotearoa New Zealand. We enjoyed activities to celebrate the start of the Chinese New Year. We also watched our monarch caterpillars munch and devour the swan plants. We watched and waited … and at the start of the day were lucky enough to see our special butterfly emerge from its chrysalis.
We know that “Responsibility” is all about the jobs we need to do and about the ways we can “Manage Ourselves”. We all have monitors jobs to help with the running of our class and there are lots of ways that we show that we can take responsibility for ourselves and our own things.
We have also been engaged with reading, writing, phonics, maths, P.E , Braingym…. and more. So as you can see we have had a great start.
