Kiā ora e te whānau
The whatu (weaving) group has enjoyed a wonderful term of learning the elements of creating a kākahu taonga. Our resident photographer came along to our last session for term 2 to capture our tamariki and whānau learning the art of tāniko (ornamental border). She also was able to get a sneaky peak at the progress being made on one of the kākahu being lovingly crafted for students to wear while representing Tawhai school at special events.
We are taking a short break for the holidays, but if you are keen to check it out – come along when we resume in term 3 from Monday 17th July straight after school from 3pm to around 4 – 4.30pm on Monday in room 1. This will run every Monday afternoon during term 3 (except for weeks 2 & 3 – 24th & 31st July).
A weekly lunchtime group is also being arranged to start from week 5 (start date to be confirmed)
There is no cost, all materials for learning have been generously provided by the Hutt City creative communities NZ fund.
