Kiā ora e te whānau

Following our Prime Minister’s announcement a short time ago, we need to inform you that Tawhai School is closed from tomorrow.

If you are a part of the identified essential services category, and require supervision for your children over the next 2 days (Tuesday and Wednesday), please let me know via email (principal@tawhai.school.nz).

Please remember that our children are likely to be nervous about their changing world right now. They not only hear everything that is going on around them, but they pick up on our tension and anxiety. Like us, they have never experienced anything like this before. Although the idea of being off school sounds awesome for some, they are probably picturing a fun time like summer holidays, not the reality of being isolated at home and not seeing their friends. Please take the next few days to help them adjust to these changing circumstances. Spend time together as a family and look after each other’s emotional wellbeing first and foremost.

In the Prime Minister’s statement, she referred to bringing the April holidays forward. In the next 24 hours, once we have further clarity from the Ministry of Education as to what this means for us all, we will share information with you about our Learning from Home Programmes. In the meantime, take a deep breath, put on a brave face, give your kids a hug, and remember that we are strong as a community and as a nation.
