Kia ora e te whānau
Over the weekend we were very lucky to have Theresa Henry come to Tawhai School to hold a Korowai for beginners wananga to learn how to whatu and provide a foundation creating korowai and kākahu.
It was a glorious event filled with lots of laughter and knowledge sharing. Along with whānau, our Tawhai students, Aysha, and Elizabeth were keen attendees and showed true Tawhai values while learning to create this beautiful taonga.
As a special surprise, the Seven Sharp film crew arrived and presented Theresa with the ASB Good as Gold award along with $10,000 gifted from ASB bank. Be sure to tune into Seven Sharp this Wednesday at 7pm to see the full surprise that unfolded at Tawhai School.
Starting next term, we would like to explore a regular hui for our Tawhai whānau to come along to whenever available to korero and start a journey of making kākahu for our kaitiaki students. If you are keen to get involved, please email jaydy.marsh@tawhai.school.nz with your thoughts on preferred dates and times etc so we can get this project started.
