Footsteps Dance

Kia ora e te whānau,

During Term 2 our Kura have been enjoying the expertise of the dance tutors from ‘Footsteps Dance’, a company which specialises in curriculum-based movement programmes for students aged 5-15 years old.

Each week all the ākonga across the kura gather in the hall to learn new routines using the 5 elements of dance which are space, time, energy, relationships, body awareness and how they are used.

Yesterday our gorgeous tamariki enjoyed their third session of 8 this term dancing in the hall. The lessons allow the ākonga to explore fundamental movement skills as well as developing balance, coordination, and body awareness.

Veronica from Footsteps Dance along with Kate, who came to a one-off session, ran yesterday’s 7 sessions involving 2-4 classes which took place during the morning. The ākonga were so quick to pick up Veronica’s very clear and concise instructions, and they showed all their Tawhai Kura values during this time! The resident photographer really enjoyed watching  how confidently they moved, and the huge smiles on their faces as they mastered the routine!
