Artsplash Choir 2023 Mihi Whakatau Term 1 2023 Our wonderful Tawhai Kura gathered under the whareruruhau (canopy) this morning for the first Mihi Whakatau for 2023. The Colour Run Camp Fundraiser 2023 Thank you to everyone that came and made our colour run such a successful event. Tawhai Arts Celebration Afternoon 2023 Poipoia te kākano, kia puāwai – Nurture the seed and it will blossom.This term Tawhai Kura have had a major focus on the Performing and Visual arts for their Term 3 inquiry. This focus included experiencing different forms of art, for example: drawing, painting, dancing, singing, and sculpture. The kura had an open afternoon on Thursday 14th September and invited whānau to not only view their tamariki’s artwork and pottery pieces which were displayed on tables surrounding the canopy but enjoy some entertainment too. Horoeka Street Family Open Day 2023 The resident whakaahua had such a fun morning capturing the events at the 11th anniversary of the Horoeka Street Family Open Day today! Matariki Activities 2023 Kia ora e te whānau,There has been such a hive of activities celebrating Matariki across the kura as we have come to the end of Term 2. As the Matariki New Year falls on the 14th July this year during the school holidays, all the classes have been doing different things to acknowledge Matariki in a range of ways in and out of the classroom, from artwork to kite making, to baking and sharing kai. We have been playing with the rakau sticks and poi throwing. The tamariki have been learning all about the meaning of Matariki. Some of the senior ākonga have also been compiling kahoots questions.Here is an album of fly-on-the-wall photos taken during the week! Te Wiki o te Reo Maori Kia ora e te whānau,Despite a busy week of filled with other activities, the Kura also continue to add te reo in all we do during our day and in our kerero. Values T Shirt Awards Assembly 2022 An initiative was set up to award a student from each class who consistently showed their best Tawhai Kura values. Year 4 & 5 Assembly 2022 Today it was the turn of our Year 4 & 5 tamariki to be acknowledged in a special assembly. Interzone Sports 2022 The weather although a bit chilly was indeed kind to the 16 ākonga who represented Tawhai Kura at the Inter-Zone Athletics held at Hutt Rec today. The well dressed tamariki arrrived looking forward to a great night with their friends! Year 6 Leavers’ Dinner: Kai, Kanikani, & Katakata 2023 The tamariki sat down to a delicious and varied catered meal whilst watching a slide show. Then the floor was cleared for them to enjoy some fun and games on the dance floor! Year 6 Leavers’ Dinner: The Prize Giving 2023 When the whānau arrived at 7.30pm, it was down to the business end of the evening; the prize giving! Upper Hutt Cultural Festival 2023 our wonderful Kapa Haka Group had a marvellous opportunity to perform again at the annual Upper Hutt Cultural Festival, (last year being their first time!)Heidi (wearing the beautiful puāwai, our kākahu taonga donated by Jaydy Marsh) and Caden were the Tu Rangatira chosen to represent Tawhai Kura at the Powhiri, then our ākonga waited patiently in their allocated spot before being called up to the stage midmorning. Values T Shirts Awards 2023 In 2019 an initiative was set up to award a student from each class who consistently showed their best Tawhai Kura values. The Tu Rangatira went with the concept of giving a specially made T shirt as the award along with a certificate! This happens bi-annually! Year 4 & 5 Assembly 2023 Kia ora e te whānau, The whole of Tawhai Kura came together under the whakaruruhau this morning to have our final assembly of the year and to award some of our wonderful Year 4 & 5 ākonga! Tawhai School at the Christmas Parade 2023 We were definitely blessed with the weather for the very much anticipated annual Stokes Valley Christmas Parade on Saturday! Tawhai Cup Year 5 & 6 2023 On Tuesday the first of the 3 days of tournament kicked off with our Year 5 & 6 tamariki playing for the prestigious Tawhai Cup.The round robins were played before morning tea, then it was straight into the finals to decide who were the winners of the Plate, bowl, and shield. Then after lunch we had the very exciting and nerve-wracking grand final between Croatia and Australia. Poroporoaki Dec 2023 There were more than a few tears shed as we farewelled not only our wonderful Year 6 ākonga but kaiako; Mrs Treadwell, Miss Kenworthy, and Miss James and several other Students and their whānau in a very poignant Poroporoaki at 12.00pm today.When everyone was seated, Mrs Poole warmly welcomed everyone and then invited our wonderful Year 5 tamariki ( who will be the Tu Rangatira of 2024!) to stand. They performed a very stirring and heartfelt haka for our departing Students, kaiako, and whānau!In turn the Year 6 Students of 2023 responded with their most straight from the heart and give it everything you got haka!Farewell to our departing Students, kaiako, and whānau! Parent Helper Morning Tea 2023 At the end of the year Tawhai Kura acknowledged our wonderful parent helpers by holding a mini concert under the whakaruruhau and morning tea. Mihi Whakatau Term 4 2023 We were very fortunate that the weather was very much in our favour this morning, so this term’s Mihi Whakatau to welcome our newest ākonga and their whānau to Tawhai Kura took place under the Whakaruruhau Tu Rangatira Aysha and Lucy welcomed the new whānau as they walked to the stage and were shown to their seats.Mr McGarry gave a whaikōrero on behalf of the tengata whenua and Matua Jake spoke on behalf of the manuhuri. Mihi Whakatau Term 1 2024 What a beautiful day to have our first Mihi Whakatau for the year! Our Senior ākonga Frankie and Thea welcomed the Manuhiri (kaiako Reuben Neely and our new Tawhai families) with a gentle wave to sit on the stage in front of the assembled kura. Porridge Wednesday Performance What an amazing and talented group of tamariki we have at Tawahi Kura! They absolutely did themselves, their whānau, and their kura proud with their wonderful acting, singing, & dancing; from the lead actors all the way down to the chorus! The audience in all 3 shows saw the nursery rhyme characters brought well and truly to life during the hour and a half they were onstage & the Dad jokes went down such a treat too! Kapa Haka at the Multicultural Festival 2024 On Sunday 52 of our gorgeous tamariki did themselves, their whānau, and the kura proud with a very stirring performance 3 waiata and the haka at the multicultural Festival which took place in the hall of the Whirinaki Whare Taonga. They kicked off a colourful mixt of vibrant music and colourful performances from around the world so they could sit back and enjoy the rest of the programme. Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2024 Some Snippets of the Kura Celebrating Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori! Kia ora e te whānau, Just a few snippets of of what our Kura have been doing during te wiki o te reo māori. The hall has been a hive of various activities during the week at lunchtime, with some of our younger tamariki learning a little bit about how to use poi & the kura haka. They also had a go at using rakau sticks, playing tākaro ( Simon says), and singing waiata. The Tu Rangatira have been marvellous in helping and guiding the younger tamariki. Some of the classes have also managed to do some cool artwork. Ka pai. | Back to collection |
