Matariki/Puanga Celebrations 2023

21st June 2023

Kia Ora ē te whānau

On Thursday 29th of June we will be celebrating Matariki/Puanga at Tawhai school. This year we are combining our Matariki/Puanga celebrations with both our PB4L fun day and celebration of learning open afternoon. You will find all the information below.

This year’s theme is “Educating our Community” where classes will be learning about many aspects of Matariki/Puanga and will be sharing and educating our Whānau/community in many different ways.

As always, we will be having our famous Matariki/Puanga sausage sizzle where each child will get a sausage and bread for lunch (we will have vegetarian sausages and gluten free bread available).  We would love to have about 6 helpers for the BBQ. If you are able to help out on the BBQ for the morning please could you contact Dave Whiteman dave@tawhai.school.nz

As part of our PB4L fun day, Mr Whippy will be coming and each student will get an ice cream (please email your child’s teacher if you don’t want your child to have an ice-cream).

Open Afternoon

You are invited to an open afternoon (Thursday 29 June) to celebrate our learning this term.  The classrooms will be open from 2.00 – 2.30pm and we would love for you to come along and see what our tamariki have been doing and learn a few things about Matariki/Puanga.  This will be followed by a short performance on the stage by our Tawhai Performance group between 2.30 – 3.00pm.

We look forward to seeing you there!

A Request for Food Items

As the Community Tū Rangatira we would like to do something for our local community to acknowledge Matariki and we thought we could donate food to the Stokes Valley Foodbank, Mario’s Pantry and the Koraunui Marae.

We would love it if each family could donate one food item, e.g. canned food, pasta, noodles, etc. that we will then donate from our school.

Food items can be taken to your child’s class this week and next and we will deliver the food on Friday 30th June.

Thank you for your support.
