On Tuesday Karen Johnston took 2 teams of senior students to our first STEMM challenge hosted by Hutt Science. STEMM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Manufacturing.
The challenge consisted of 3 rounds of questions and 3 practical rounds, which included using a pendulum, labelling organs in different animals, and making a small rocking chair that would hold a golf ball. Some of the questions were quite tricky – such as “in an email what does ‘cc’ stand for?” and “out of an egg beater, telephone and radio; which one was invented by a New Zealander?”. Both teams held their own in a large crowd of 51 teams, and the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Well done, fantastic effort everyone!
