Kia ora e te whānau,
On Tuesday 19th September Kōpara Hub took an exciting trip on the bus to The Dowse in Lower Hutt. We looked at the artworks from NZ artist, Raukura Turei who uses whenua from places connected to her whakapapa to create amazing art. The children created some of their own artworks using our own local whenua (sand, charcoal, salt on top of oil pastel). We also looked at all the other artworks displayed in the gallery – we were amazed! We listened to and looked at an exhibition created by Sione Faletau called Tau’a’alo. He used repeating patterns and the sound recordings of chanting and Tongan environments to create an expressive exhibition. We then listened to sounds from other cultures and let the sounds lead our pencils as we created artwork related to the sounds.
It was a fantastic trip that we all loved!
